PURE NATURE

One third of Asturias territory consists of protected areas. It consists of one National Park (PICOS DE EUROPA) an hour away , Five Natural Parks and several Natural Reserves and Protected areas, such as SOMIEDO Natural Park, REDES, EO RIA, Biosfere reserve in MUNIELLOS. Historical Protected areas such as Roman sites, and old coal mines buildings are also excellent points of interest. All the coastline from CUDILLERO until Valdes, including CAPE VIDIO and CAPE BUSTO is protected landscape.

BEACHES AND COAST

From Vidio lighthouse, only 3 kilometers from our hotel, all the Occidental coastline of Asturias can be clearly seen. On an extra clear day, you can see CAPE PEÑAS, La Regalina Chapel in Cadavedo, Cape Busto , CAPE SAN AGUSTIN in NAVIA even CAPE ESTACA DE BARES the Nothern point of Spain!.

In the immediate surroundings, only 5 minutes away by car, it is the sandy beach SAN PEDRO DE LA RIVERA and only 10 minutes away, there are the following beaches: El SILENCIO (The Silence) which is a natural bay, AGUILAR, and LA CONCHA DE ARTEDO. There are several beaches which need to be highlighted by its natural beauty such as OTUR, BARAYO and FREJULFE. Less than one hour by car, its worthy the visit to TAPIA DE CASARIEGO, known because its surf festival in summer, Las Catedrales named because its natural erosion resemble a stone Cathedral, SAN LORENZO in Gijon and RODILES in Villaviciosa.

COASTAL VILLAGES

Asturias has more than 300 km of coast, we are a region facing the sea and all along its coast there are many fishing villages.

CUDILLERO: only 10 minutes from the hotel, you will find houses that were built into the side of a natural amphitheatre, and a protected harbor is the place where the best hake and sea bass are caught. The light house on a hill surrounded by the sea makes Cudillero a must see in you Asturias visit.

LUARCA is known as the "White Village in the Green Coast" due to the color of its houses. It is located only 20 minutes away from the hotel. Its picturesque cemetery with a spectacular view over the sea and tiny harbor are a must see. The recently opened Museum of the Gigantic Squid is bound to thrill the kids.

Other villages which are worth a visit are PUERTO DE VEGA, La CARIDAD, TAPIA de CASARIEGO in the West, LLANES, LASTRES where we have a Museum dedicated to Jurasic Age , VILLAVICIOSA, RIBADESELLA and COLOMBRES in the East. All of them easy to reach using the A-8 highway.

DISCOVERING THE INTERIOR ASTURIAS

Asturias is a truly natural paradise, with high mountains and high ethnological value of remote villages where exits until today old traditions. Near Galicia our neighbor region, TARAMUNDI is a small village where you can see old looms and mills still working, La Comarca Vaqueira, where the hotel is located, towards PICOS DE EUROPA ( Europe Peaks) we can visit local farms for cheese production. There are plenty of places to discover and it is the perfect opportunity to meet locals and try different cooking.

The old tradition of old coal mines and modernity lives together in the central Asturias area. Until 90 ´s coal mines and steel production were the driving force of our economy, that past is visible in the elevators to descend into the mines and old factories. In order to understand the past, two Museums can be visited Museum of mining and iron and steel, both in LANGREO, heart of that industrial sector.

THE THREE CITIES

OVIEDO, capital of Asturias since VII century AC. It has in a old city, all pedestrian area, where medieval streets, a Gothic Cathedral and several palaces live together with the busy rhythm of a modern commercial city. It is a must to see the preromanesque monuments in Naranco hill where there is an astonished view of the city and surroundings.

GIJON is a city open to the sea perfect for a stroll to discover new destinations to taste cider and tapas. Our suggestions is to follow the Roman footprint in significant archaeological remains, walk all CIMADEVILLA hill including El Elogio del Horizonte where a huge sculpture in open air was created by Eduardo Chillida, pass by SAN LORENZO BEACH, and go for any concert or exhibition. La Laboral, recently opened on the old university premises is a perfect place to experience the local culture.

AVILES, from medieval village founded in X century AC, passing to center of steel industry and shipping to a new cultural future thanks to the just open Niemeyer Cultural Center, given by the own architect as a gift to the city..a city to rediscover!

PREROMANESQUE ROUTE

The historical monuments of preromanesque style, build during the VIII and IX century AC, are included in UNESCO Universal Heritage Sites, due to its unique value. They are located in central Asturias, the best examples of this architecture are in Oviedo: SAN MIGUEL DE LILLO, SANTA MARIA DEL NARANCO and SAN JULIAN DE LOS PRADOS, the last one has the only remaining example of in situ paintings from VIII century in all Europe. Moreover, original goldsmithing of that times can be seen in The Oviedo Cathedral. We strongly recommend visiting, Santa Cristina de Lena, , San Pedro de Nora, , Santianes de Pravia, San Salvador de Valdedios in Villaviciosa Valley and Santo Adriano de Tuñon in Trubia Valley.

PALEOLITIC CAVES ROUTE

Theses caves have been recognized as UNESCO Heritage Sites too. There are several caves in all Asturias, only few of them suitable for visit. The most famous are TITO BUSTILLO in Ribadesella, El PINDAL in Ribadedeva, and CANDAMO, only 30 minutes from the hotel, all of them all year open and have their interpretation centers nearby. This is a trip to the heart of the Earth with paintings with more than 20.000 years old.
